A stunning collaboration between the owners and talented design duo at McRae + Lynch Design brought back to life a Sydney inner-city terrace through a complete home renovation and make-over. With an open mind and plenty of trust, the owners outlined the brief to be simple – a high end, contemporary style with innovative elements.

The abundant natural light streaming in through the newly added skylights coupled with full-width rear doors connecting the kitchen to the courtyard, served as the foundations of a beautiful indoor-outdoor flow that strongly inspired the design of the interior spaces.

So central to the home, the kitchen was the starting point for the design process with an aim to create a warm and organic feel, bringing the beauty of nature in.

Utilised on the kitchen cooktop bench, splashback and impressive island with a waterfall edge on one side and a 40mm mitred edge on the other, White Cloud porcelain and its grey tones paired well with soft sage green joinery, resulting to a perfect combination that is sophisticated yet earthy and serene.

“We introduced our clients to Smartstone’s White Cloud, which they loved, and this set the tone for the finishes throughout the home”, explained Karyn McRae of McRae + Lynch Design.

Inspired by one of the world’s most popular quartzites, White Cloud presents a very light grey background crossed by fine white veins and deeper veins reminiscent of cloud ripples.

Available in Australia through Smartstone, White Cloud is one of 9 porcelain products imported from Italy and manufactured by Atlas Plan, a European leader renowned worldwide for its superb replications of marble and natural stone-look surfaces.

In addition to the refined aesthetic, the technical performance and durability of large format porcelain panels of White Cloud make it the perfect choice for pitt cooking, a system where burners are integrated directly into the benchtop. Renowned for its stain, scratch and heat resistance, porcelain surfaces are highly durable and easy to maintain.

With a silk finish, White Cloud comes in an economical slab size of 3200mm x 1600mm x 12mm, providing more design options and wider coverage for larger benchtop surfaces.

In the bathrooms, the Smartstone Davinci Blanco vanity countertop is part of a careful selection of quality materials including a seamless tactile microcement finish to the walls and floor. Together with gunmetal grey tapware and a steel-framed shower screen, the result is a beautiful and tranquil spa-like experience.

With its subtle, brownish grey veining on a crisp white background, Davinci Blanco is a bestseller and one of the most popular among home renovators. From the premium plus range, Davinci Blanco is available in a low silica, recycled base formulation.

“We were fortunate with this project that our clients were open to new design concepts and weren’t afraid to explore colour and new products”, says McRae + Lynch co-designer Helen Lynch. “Our meticulously curated design has created a high-end home for our clients and they couldn’t be happier”.
