In the beautiful seaside suburb of Coogee in Sydney, kitchen and bathroom specialists Balnei & Colina created a beautiful, modern and highly functional kitchen with adjoining yet hidden butler’s pantry and laundry room.

With a U-shape and limited floor space, it was quite a challenge to include everything that the homeowner specified in the design brief which included maximising floor space and incorporating a casual meals area, greater storage, and a self-contained laundry.

“Our clients wanted a more open kitchen concept, so the challenge here was to create a new kitchen layout that maximised the existing floor space, added greater functionality and storage, and still meet the open plan feel our clients were after,” explained Robert Fonti, Director of Balnei & Colina.

To meet the requirements, Balnei & Colina opened up the kitchen with an island bench that provided an additional work space and can accommodate dining for three people who can enjoy an ocean view while having their meal.

A classical beauty, Smartstone Athena was the perfect choice for island benchtop, back bench as well as the splashback that wrapped the entire kitchen area. Replicating natural stone, Athena has become a favourite choice for dominantly white kitchens as it provides the versatility and subtle accent with its unique veining and luminous white depth.

“We love using Smartstone as a go-to surface material for our renovation projects because it’s a reliable, durable product. With its stain and scratch resistant properties, it’s the perfect solution for today’s modern homes. Available in a wide variety of colours and finishes Smartstone is easily paired with any home style,” said Robert.

Despite the limitations, the results were stunning with the clever design and use of space that transformed the kitchen into a multifunctional area. Behind barn doors, the butler’s pantry is kept out of sight and laundry area is tucked away in the corner, allowing the family to gather in a common area while doing chores, preparing meals and entertaining.

In addition to the pantry, there is ample storage space available provided by generous drawers and cupboards with shaker style doors.

Since 1997, Balnei & Colina have been helping Australians to achieve their home renovation goals with their leadership in superior custom cabinetry and expertise in kitchen and bathroom design.
