As soon as they bought their family home in Emerald Beach NSW, interior stylist Carly Jade had a mission to give the kitchenette a makeover it deserved. Situated on the ground floor with direct access to the backyard, it was the perfect place to set up a coffee station, bar fridge and snack area.

An online renovation journal, Our Emerald Home documented the makeover journey of the kitchenette. The journey began with an arched shelf and wall painted with a warm beige hue, producing best results when paired with other natural colours.

Consistent with the earthy organic design, Carly combined timber, rattan and leathered stone finish for the benchtop and cabinetry. Cabinet doors, the hanging pendant and lounge furniture were all made with skilfully woven rattan, adding a relaxed element and another texture to the room.

With a honed leather finish, Smartstone Pelle Grigio was clearly the most compatible benchtop for the natural colour palette.

“It is the MOST divine leathery texture and is not shiny – which personally is a huge positive in my eyes,” said Carly.

An exclusive quartz surface, Pelle Grigio features a beautiful mottled texture and fine vein on a soft grey background. It perfectly sits in the Paris Collection which takes inspiration from a city renowned for its sophistication and style.

“When it came to selecting Smartstone the choice was really simple; the range was unique, stunning and fit the aesthetic of our home. When my partner and I saw Pelle Grigio for the first time we both instantly knew we’d found the ‘one’. Its texture, the vein, everything about it was perfection,” Carly added.

As the kitchenette will be used to hold large amounts of food and can alternate as a bar for entertaining, Carly opted for a 700mm bench width, which is wider that the usual 600mm. The wider benchtop option was achieved easily with Smartstone’s jumbo size slabs measuring 3200mm x 1600mm, which are deal for extra-long or extra-wide benchtop designs.  Larger slabs are also significantly more economical, offering more cost effective per-square-metre rates by reducing the number of slabs required.

“The more bench space the better and as for storage, well, I’ve never heard anyone complain about having too much storage,” she added.
