In the coastal town of Noosa, the family home of actor Matt Wilson and wife Jess is a beautiful reflection of the way they live: relaxed, welcoming and designed for the realities of family life.
Home to the couple and their three young children, the Sunshine Coast renovation has been a careful balance of practicality with timeless style.
Prior to his breakout role as Aaron Brennan on Neighbours (2015 to 2025), Matt worked as a qualified carpenter and builder for 11 years. With acting still his profession, Matt renovates between projects. While he spent hours bringing their design vision to life himself, Jess managed the finances and shares their renovation journey online.
The couple opt for spaces that feel collected over time rather than overly-styled, highlighting texture, warmth and natural materials with soft and calming colour palettes.
Embracing the property's cottage-style charm, they introduced a calming palette of softer tones, natural textures, and carefully considered finishes that sit comfortably within the home's original framework. Instead of chasing trends, the couple looked at the home's character and relaxed coastal setting for inspiration.
"We wanted to move away from the very stark all-white look and create something softer, moodier and more timeless," said Matt. "A space that felt warm, layered and full of character."
That philosophy extends throughout the home especially in the kitchen, where thoughtful storage, durable materials and family-friendly spaces work seamlessly alongside carefully selected design details.
The result is a kitchen effortlessly connected to its surroundings, a muted blue palette paired with Smartstone Carrara benchtops, a sintered stone replica of Italy's iconic marble. Carrara's timeless elegance and refined character sit equally at home in traditional and contemporary designs.
“One of the things we loved most about the project was balancing high-end finishes with practical family living. We have young kids, so every decision had to work hard functionally while still feeling beautiful”, adds Jess.
The finished home feels warm, collected and deeply personal, a place where the coastal charm is highlighted and demands of family life are considered.
