Affordable sintered stone benchtops

Sintered stone benchtops

Does your dream kitchen have marble benchtops?

Bring your vision to life at a more cost-effective price with the high-performing sintered stone kitchen benchtop from Smartstone.

Homeowners, designers, builders, and renovators seek high-quality products at affordable prices, and kitchen benchtop materials are no exception. Selecting the right material can seem overwhelming with so many available options, and while marble is widely considered to be the quintessential kitchen benchtop, its high cost, porous nature, and high maintenance make it unsuitable and undesirable for most people.

When choosing a benchtop material for your kitchen, you’re likely looking for a surface that:

  • looks premium, sophisticated, and stylish

  • is versatile

  • won’t become dated

  • won’t look cheap yet cost-effective

  • resists damage, heat marks, and stains

  • requires little, if any, maintenance

  • is easy to clean and keep hygienic

  • will not need replacement for many years

Sintered stone is the solution you seek.

After the launched of its Sintered Collection two years ago, Smartstone has become a leading Australian distributor of sintered stone countertops for kitchens as well as bathrooms, laundry, and even outdoor cooking and dining spaces.

What is Sintered Stone?

Sintered stone is a product made using a “sintering” process. This combines advanced modern technology with natural fusion techniques, using extreme heat and pressure to replicate how the Earth naturally creates rocks and stones over millions of years.

Sintered stone is comprised of 100% natural minerals with no binders. At Smartstone, we elevated traditional porcelain, an advanced refined ceramic made from fine clay and feldspar (a group of rock-forming minerals), through sintering. The result is an extremely dense, non-porous, durable material that performs exceptionally well across all metrics applicable to kitchen benchtops.

Sintered Stone vs Engineered Stone

Remarkably durable, sintered stone is a 100% natural mineral material manufactured using extreme heat and pressure to permanently fuse the particles into a stone surface.

Engineered stone, on the other hand, is typically crafted from around 90% quartz particles (though other stones may be used), bonded using resins and pigments. The result is durable but does not look or perform as well as sintered stone. It has a lower heat-resistance and may scorch or burn if you put hot pans directly onto an engineered stone. It is also susceptible to discolouration and fading when exposed to UV (i.e. sunlight).

Yes – with caution! This will not cause damage (cracking, scorching, burning) or discolouration to the sintered stone benchtop, as there are no binders or resins that may melt (unlike engineered stone). Sintered stone is capable of withstanding temperatures of as high as 300 degrees Celsius. It should be noted that the product is heat-resistant, not heat-proof. A trivet or similar will ideally be used for safety.
