Stunning Calacatta Oro shines in kitchen facelift on Selling in the City

Featured Project: Marrickville NSW
Featured Stone: Ibrido Calacatta Oro
Stone Fabrication: Uniquip Stone

In episode 6 of BINGE original renovation series Selling in the City, the stunning Calacatta Oro from the low silica Ibrido Collection shines as benchtops and splashback in the kitchen that underwent a facelift in an effort increase the Marrickville NSW property value up to $1.7million.

Taking inspiration from the inner city neighbourhood vibe, design duo Rosie Morley and Paddy Milne went for a kitchen refresh in line with the over-all home redesign scheme that reflects a retro feel, strong European influence and palette of Mediterranean colours. Twenty minutes southwest of Sydney CBD, Marrickville is a “cool but not blingy” suburb where European migrants had settled for many years, resulting to classic examples of Europe in Australia seen in many homes in the area.

Upon initial inspection of the property, Rosie and Paddy recognised the benefits of the kitchen’s functional and working layout but noted that the mixed finishes were not doing it any favours.

Without reconfiguring the layout, the kitchen received a new island benchtop with a waterfall edge and a 300mm overhang that allows bar-style seating. The finishes were unified in the space by using the same material – Calacatta Oro – for the benchtops and splashback.

“The stunning stone has a strong rust and almost olive marbling which links back to our Mediterranean palette,” said Rosie. “The stone benchtops run up the wall so you can follow the grain along the benchtop and then it traces up the wall which is really a delightful way of expanding space because your eye is travelling in two directions.”

As a lovely nostalgic overlay, European timber oak grain cabinetry added warmth and tactility to the kitchen, perfectly complementing the stone surfaces.

From the newly launched Ibrido collection, Calacatta Oro is one of 7 new generation surfaces that combine the aesthetic precision of natural stone with the benefits of quartz. Calacatta Oro reinterprets a magnificent Italian marble with grey veins edged with distinctive gold highlights on a lustrous white background. Available in left and right versions, Calacatta Oro is ideal for creating a beautifully seamless book matching, optimising design possibilities and providing continuous veining on larger surface areas.

With a renovation budget of only $45,000, the Selling in the City team generated an increase of up to $100,000 in property value.

With the most natural-looking engineered stone surfaces, Smartstone is a partner and official stone benchtop supplier in the 8 one-hour series. Produced by Warner Bros International Television Productions (WBITVP) exclusively for the Foxtel Group, Selling In The City is available on demand on Binge and its episodes are aired on Foxtel’s Lifestyle channel on Wednesdays, 830pm. The home renovation series follows design experts Rosie and Paddy as they transform properties through exceptional design and clever solutions with the goal to increase the market value and a tight budget.

Watch on BINGE.
